Meet Kaushik, a cornerstone Compound member from our very first cohort.

As a C-suite executive at a technology start-up, Kaushik is time-poor but had specific health and performance goals he needed to hit. He wanted to lose some unwanted weight but he also had his sights set on increased energy for both work and his family life.

He entrusted Compound with completely reshaping his health over three months, transforming not only his physical and biochemical metrics but a range of mental unlocks that he didn’t realise were holding him back.

Lost 9.3kg of excess weight

The Compound program is designed to maximise the ROI that members spend training, recovering and focusing on their nutrition. For many of our members, that means training smarter within the time they have, rather than finding more time to exercise.

With Kaushik’s time-poor lifestyle, this was his secret sauce. He was able to train more efficiently with guidance from the Compound team, while maximising his nutritional intake based on the team's recommendations and our learnings from his diet diary (a 7-day exercise during the program’s onboarding).

We recognise that having convenient meal options readily available (be that a healthy takeaway option near the office or a pre-prepared meal) increases the likelihood of a member making a good choice as opposed to a bad one due to decision fatigue.

The combination of these resulted in a total weight loss of 9.3kg in three months.

Lost 5.9% body-fat and 150g of visceral fat

It’s a member's hard work that achieves the results, but Compound’s diagnostics that makes them measurable. After all, you can’t fix what you can’t measure.

By conducting a DEXA scan before and after Kaushik’s 12-week program, we were able to dig deep into where he was carrying muscle and excess fat, informing his program to achieve the best outcome possible.

Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) is a means of measuring bone mineral density using spectral imaging, revealing that Kaushik was able to drop almost 6% total body-fat and 150g of visceral fat (VAT - toxic fat hidden on and around the organs).

This cut his risk of heart attack in half and lowers his chances of a range of other disorders, such as high blood pressure and obesity.

VO2 Max increase from 35 → 42

Another key diagnostic tool is the VO2 Max test on the treadmill. VO2 Max is the maximum rate of oxygen your body can use when exercising at maximum intensities, providing a reliable measure of aerobic fitness and a key physiological measure of health and performance.

Simply, a higher VO2 Max means a more conditioned aerobic system and indicates cardiovascular health.

By determining Kaushik’s initial VO2 Max of 35, the Compound team looked at his running technique, and created a plan to focus on aerobic improvement during his program. Not only did this help him quit smoking to more effectively use his lungs, he also began to enjoy the process and has taken up running as a result.

Reaching a score of 42 after his program is an amazing outcome that has led to more energy and higher focus at work.

When asked about the biggest dividends and unlocks since completing his first Compound cycle, Kaushik had this to say:

“My energy levels are way higher than before. I can push myself harder at work (my boss/peers have noticed) and also have plenty of fuel in the tank for family life. Achieving measurable progress against my baseline on a quarterly basis has made it super clear that goal setting works, outside of the work setting, and has got me inspired to keep going! My unlock is that I now have a system for managing my diet, improving cardio, and building muscle. The system works, it’s fun to do, and it’s repeatable for the rest of my life. It’s also triggered a positive mindset which is manifesting in other parts of my life.”

Looking at Kaushik’s outcomes, the tangible results of the program are clear. We can’t wait to bring this to many more Australian men and welcome you to register your interest below.
